In this course, we will go through the most common steps in the process of data loading and transformation. Every step will be explained and shown using baseR, tidyverse and data.table approach followed by a discussion of the advantages and disadvantages. These steps include:

  • data loading / reading
  • single table transformations: filtering, selection, arranging, mutating / altering
  • summaries
  • multi table transformations: joins
  • vectorisation (avoiding for loops)
  • data writing

Prerequisites:

  • basic familiarity with R
  • basic understanding of data structures and types
  • R and Rstudio should be installed on your computer prior to attending the workshop

About the facilitator:

Michal Kubišta
Michal is working in Retail Analytics at Nielsen, handling the advanced R based products offered to FMCG retailer in CEE. When he is not writing R scripts, you will most likely find him trying to break his laptop by installing all possible Linux subsystems, virtual machines and docker images or arguing with his Indian colleagues over the new server setups. When deprived of access to the computer, he tends to go running, hiking or skiing.
