Czech Economic Society Awards Go to Four CERGE-EI Community Members

29 November, 2016

We are excited to announce that four CERGE-EI community members received awards at last Saturday’s meeting of the Czech Economic Society (CSE).

Randall Filer, Professor of Economics at the City University of New York, CERGE-EI’s Visiting Professor and a member of its Executive and Supervisory Committee, has won the CSE Award for Long-Term Contribution to the Development of Czech Economic Science. According to CSE President Martin Macháček, the Czech economic community appreciates Professor Filer’s long-term “selfless commitment to help develop modern economic education and research.”

Julie Chytilová, an Associate Professor at the Institute of Economic Studies of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University, and a CERGE-EI Researcher, has received the Kateřina Šmídková Award that was established to commemorate the renowned Czech economist and a longstanding CSE board member. The award recognizes Czech female economists for their outstanding research achievements and supports their further professional development.

In addition, CERGE-EI doctoral students Gega Todua and Michal Šoltés have received the second and the third prize, respectively, in the CSE’s Young Economist of the Year competition. This follows on from the successes of 2013,  2014 and 2015 when our students took all three top prizes.
