MA in Applied Economics Placements and Prospects
27 April, 2016
From San Francisco to Singapore, the growing success of alumni of the MA in Applied Economics program knows no boundaries. Since its establishment CERGE-EI laid out its mission to “expand the pool of elite economists in Central and Eastern Europe and beyond to serve the public interest.” We are delighted that the students who have walked the halls of CERGE-EI’s Schebek palace did everything but fall short of such a goal.
The recent placements of numerous MA in Applied Economics alumni have perpetuated this standard of accomplishments. Pavel Lubov, a recent graduate, is pursuing his pathway in finance with a Credit Risk Analyst internship at NORD/LB in Singapore. Or, for instance, Andrea Sandorova who acquired an Associate position at The Boston Consulting Group last fall.
Beyond the classic routes, the Master’s program graduates have also explored a diverse range of more adventurous opportunities. Veronika Jelinkova has taken up entrepreneurship with a number of start-up projects in the San Francisco Bay Area, including having co-founded Procrastination.com and currently starting her own startup – a social movement called Metalearners that applies metalearning to online practical tools. As another recent example, Enis Hasimi has become a coordinator of the Tirana Innovation Hub in Albania.
As a one-year program, the MA in Applied Economics has enabled alumni to accelerate their career paths in a variety of fields. The human-centered design approach empowers students to distinguish themselves as creative problem solvers with a strong analytical background. The program’s track record contains countless placements in ‘The Big Four’ around Europe, including KPMG consultant, Michal Do Viet, and EY consultant, Giedre Sakalyte.
Those aspiring to apply their critical thinking skills to community issues are well equipped with the expertise and resources to prosper in a governmental role. For many ambitious local students the Czech government offers ideal prospects, such as Aleš Nechuta assuming his position as an Economic Analyst last year. Further career opportunities lie in central banking, including the placements of Sevinj Atakishiyeva and Katarina Kovac at the Central Bank of Azerbaijan and the Croatian National Bank, respectively.
The number of bright and determined graduates who have accomplished great feats after completing the MA in Applied Economics program has truly been a testament to the high-quality students and education at CERGE-EI. Throughout the year, free professional development, career counseling and networking events are crucial to the support that students receive in advancing their job opportunities.
