#AlumniLive Talk with Magdalena Morgese Borys (European Commission)

We warmly invite you to our next #AlumniLive Talk: From Crisis to Recovery

Our guest will be Magdalena Morgese Borys, CERGE-EI alumna and Head of Unit at the European Commission responsible for managing Recovery and Resilience support for Italy.

The talk will explore a broader economic question that matters far beyond Brussels: how governments can design recovery programs that not only spend money, but also deliver reform, investment, and long-term impact. Using the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), the centerpiece of NextGenerationEU, as a case study, Magdalena will discuss how performance-based public funding works in practice, why this instrument is attracting attention as a possible model for future EU budgeting, and what the Italian experience can teach us about linking reforms with investment.

As part of the event, Magdalena will also share her personal career story, including how she moved from CERGE-EI to her current role, what this work looks like in practice, and what students interested in similar paths should know.

The talk will be followed by a networking reception with food and drinks, offering a chance to continue the discussion.
