Prior to applying, you must:

• Be admitted to a Master’s program in Economics or a closely related field at your home university; if you are unsure whether your program fits, write to us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

• Agree with your home university on how your grades from CERGE-EI PhD courses will be recognized; CERGE-EI cannot guarantee or help you with grade recognition.

• When applying indicate in your application supplement for what period you would like to come to CERGE-EI and what courses you would like to participate in if you are accepted for the Visiting Master’s scheme. Our PhD program has 3 semesters; please see PhD program details to select the subjects.

• Please note that if you are interested in applying for a Fellowship, you need to come for the whole academic year and take all the classes required in the first year of PhD.

Applications are considered upon request. There is no application deadline but please This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. at least two months before your planned visit. You are welcome to join us for the whole academic year, for one semester or for a shorter period.

How to Apply:

1. Send the following documents in electronic form to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.:

  • Your letter of admission to the Master’s program at your university.
  • Application indicating that you wish to enroll in the Visiting Master’s scheme.
  • Curriculum vitae.
  • Statement of motivation: 1000-2000 word statement in English explaining your academic background, interests and career goals, and how the Visiting Master’s scheme will help you meet your objectives. Please see the Statement of Motivation Guidelines
  • Bachelor’s degree transcript.
  • A notary-verified copy of your Bachelor's degree diploma. If your diploma has not yet been issued when you are applying for the Visiting Master’s scheme, please submit an official confirmation from your university saying that there are no obstacles to your graduation and that you are expected to graduate, e.g., by the end of June of this year (specifying when the diploma will be issued).

Other relevant documents that may increase your chances of being admitted to the Visiting Master’s scheme, such as additional study records, certificates, diplomas, etc.

You are encouraged to submit TOEFL, IELTS, or other certified English language exam scores, as well as GRE, GMAT, or other proficiency test scores.

2. Send the following documents in paper copy to the address below:

  • Two letters of recommendation from persons familiar with your academic background, provided in sealed envelopes with the recommender's signature written across the seal (form available here, download to fill in electronically).

Upon submitting your application, it will be considered by the Admission Committee. You will be notified whether or not you are admitted to the Visiting Master’s scheme at CERGE-EI within a month at the latest.
