Restud Tour Summarized

CERGE-EI was proud to host the Review of Economic Studies Tour (Restud Tour) on 10-11 May, 2018. More than 170 guests from 25 countries joined the event. The two days were filled with presentations of and discussions with the seven speakers, all PhD candidates from leading US universities, selected by the Review of Economic Studies as the most promising young economists. CERGE-EI in Prague was their second stop, preceded by the Queen Mary University of London, and followed by the University of Copenhagen.

Congratulations to PhD and MA in Economics Graduates

The 2018 PhD and MA in Economics Graduation Ceremony took place on Friday, 1 June at 11:00 in the historic halls of Schebek Palace. Opening remarks were given by the Ambassador of the United States to the Czech Republic, Mr. Stephen B. King; member of the CERGE-EI Foundation Board, Susan Walton; and the co-founder of CERGE-EI and Director of the Center on Global Economic Governance at Columbia University, Prof. Jan Švejnar.

Publication in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences Journal

We are very proud to announce that the article “Social contagion of ethnic hostility“ by Michal Bauer (CERGE-EI faculty member and IES FSV UK), Jana Cahlíková (CERGE-EI PhD graduate, Max Planck Institute for Tax Law and Public Finance), Julie Chytilová (CERGE-EI researcher and IES FSV UK), and Tomáš Želinský (Faculty of Economics, Technical University of Košice) has been published by the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) journal. Their findings seek to explain why ethnic hostilities can spread quickly, even in societies with few visible signs of interethnic hatred.

Discover Schebek Palace During the Open House Festival

For the first time, CERGE-EI will join the Open House Festival, and open its premises to the public for the whole weekend of May 19-20. The second floor with its marble staircase, antique furniture, parquet floors and extravagant rugs, fabric walls, bejeweled ceilings, chandeliers, and stunning painted ceilings all await to be discovered by the festival audience.
