CERGE-EI Alumni Spotlight: New Roles at Harvard, IMF, and More

Dejan Kovač Joins Harvard University as Postdoctoral Fellow
CERGE-EI alumnus Dejan Kovač recently joined the Center for International Development at Harvard University as a Postdoctoral Fellow. His research focuses on international political economy, behavioral economics, education economics, and health economics, with particular attention to the lasting effects of war and conflict on human development, social norms, and health outcomes. Dejan’s work extends beyond academia to collaborations with governmental agencies in Croatia, including the Ministry of Science and Education, the Ministry of Veterans, and the Ministry of Health. In 2022, Dejan also worked as a consultant for the World Bank on the forced displacement of refugees in Croatia and Bosnia.

Zuzana Fungáčová Elected Chairwoman of Slovak Economic Association
Zuzana Fungáčová, a CERGE-EI alumna and current Senior Adviser at the Bank of Finland Institute for Emerging Economies (BOFIT), has been elected Chairwoman of the Slovak Economic Association. Earlier this year, Zuzana visited CERGE-EI for our #AlumniLive series, where she delivered the seminar Banking Beyond Borders: Insights into Emerging Markets. In this talk, she shared her insights into the global banking sector and its implications for emerging economies. You can watch her full presentation on the CERGE-EI YouTube channel.

Tamta Sopromadze Begins Role as IMF Consultant
CERGE-EI alumna Tamta Sopromadze recently took on a new role as a short-term consultant for the IMF, while also promoted to Deputy Head of the Macroeconomics and Statistics Department at the National Bank of Georgia. In her position at the IMF, she works on missions to support central banks in developing and refining their Forecasting and Policy Analysis Systems (FPAS). With her experience in monetary policy, macroeconomic modeling and forecasting, she contributes to strengthening economic frameworks and enhancing policy decision-making in developing countries. Tamta’s work focuses on integrating advanced analytical tools to improve central banks’ forecasting.

CERGE-EI alumna Nobue Sato Block, CPA, has been included in Marquis Who’s Who, which selects individuals based on their current reference value, position, accomplishments, visibility, and prominence.

Research Achievements: Ján Palguta, Tomáš Lichard, and Branislav Žúdel Published in AEA Journal
