CERGE-EI Alumna becomes an Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund (IMF)

1 November, 2016

Michaela Erbenová, a PhD Alumna of the Center for Economic Research and Graduate Education, Charles University, took up the office on November 1, 2016, as the first Czech representative in IMF management. For the first time in 70 years, the Czech Republic thus has a seat at the table as one of the 24 members of the IMF Executive Board elected by the IMF Board of Governors.

Dr. Erbenová will represent the Central and Eastern European constituency (Austria, Belarus, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Kosovo, Slovakia, Slovenia and Turkey) on the IMF Executive Board for two years. She has been employed at the IMF since 2007, most recently as Deputy Division Chief in the Monetary and Capital Markets Department. From 2000 to 2006, she was a member of the Bank Board of the Czech National Bank, which nominated her for the post of IMF Executive Director.

We offer our sincere congratulations to Mrs. Erbenová on this tremendous step in her successful career, and wish her all the best during her two years representing the Czech Republic and the region at the IMF.
