Prof. Eva Zažímalová, President of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Visits CERGE-EI

29 March, 2018

On March 5, 2018, Prof. Eva Zažímalová, President of the Czech Academy of Sciences, visited CERGE-EI, a joint workplace of Charles University and the Economics Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences, accompanied by other Academy of Sciences representatives. The purpose of her visit was to get the latest updates on the Economics Institute's research achievements and educational activities, while discussing further collaboration within the Academy of Sciences, and across academia in general.

The Economics Institute presentation focused on its scientific contributions (one of the three institutes within the Academy of Sciences with the best publication record in its field, and awarded two prestigious European Research Council grants so far) and those institutional charasteristics which are rather unique about it (for example, the presence of renowned world economists in its international advisory board, and faculty members being hired on the international job market each year).

One of the topics addressed by Prof. Eva Zažímalová were equal opportunities for female researchers. "Hiring top-qualified female researchers is our long-term priority. This year, the offers we made to female researchers (full time, tenure-track) amounted to one-third of all our offers, which is a high percentage compared to their relatively low-scale representation on the job market. Sometimes we literally have to fight over young talented female researchers with first-rate results and recommendations from prestigious international institutes with similar strategic goals. The competition is very high in our field," added CERGE-EI Director, Michal Kejak.

A detailed report (in Czech) about this visit is available on the Czech Academy of Sciences web pages.
